General

What is a Sensory Station? The portable station provides a complete sensory immersion with continuous water flow, color-changing lights and sound. The Sensory Station unit is a uniquely designed “portable fountain” that allows individuals to experience the sensory feeling of continuously moving water, similar to a faucet in your house, but without the major issues; including high water bills, drowning, scalding from hot water, and overflowing.

Why should I buy this product?

  • It helps eliminate four major problems with children using sinks in order to receive water sensory stimulation.
    • High water bill – the Sensory Station recirculates water
    • Risk of scalding hot water being used – You control the temperature of the water being placed in the tray
    • Risk of sink overflowing if drain is covered – If the station’s vent is ever covered the basin is designed to not let water overflow.
    • Risk of child drowning – While running, minimal water is in the basin. If the station’s vent is ever covered the basin is large enough to not let water pool at a dangerous height.
  • “Calming life through water”, the system creates a soothing cascade of water; water is known to be a stress reliever for both children and adults.
  • The system has built-in LED lights and a USB speaker charging port for a more immersive sensory experience.
  • The system continuously circulates water using a quality, long-lasting pump designed by OASE® the global leader in creative water technology.

What is unique about the design?

  • The unit is large enough to allow an adult sized user to place both hands in the active area
  • It has an isolated and secured pump with no direct access by user
  • The water flow is similar to the flow of a standard water faucet
  • The unit is easy to disassemble and clean by an adult
  • Includes built-in LED lights and a USB speaker charging port

How does it work? A built-in pump circulates the water from an internal water tray.  The water flows down the back of the angled basin, through the water vent and into the water tray. The water tray has a filter to prevent large particles from re-entering the pump flow and clogging the pump. The water is then pumped through the spout at the top of the unit and back into the basin, creating a soothing cascade of water. The built-in LED lights are controlled using a remote control.  You can choose from 16 pre-set colors or from 4 adjustable full color light transition options: flash, strobe, fade and smooth.

Is the system safe for my child to use?

  • Yes, we have designed the Sensory Station to meet or exceed all the US Consumer Product Safety testing requirements for products sold to children. The transformer is UL listed for safe use and is providing a 12V power source to the main unit.
  • The Sensory Station is not intended for use by children under the age of 4. Always supervise children while they are using this system. Always make sure the system is placed on a stable and level surface.
  • The unit is designed with two locking mechanisms to limit access to internal components. The pump has an additional safety feature; if the system is plugged in and switched on the pump will not turn on unless water tray is engaged.
  • While the system is running there is very little water present in the basin to avoid risk of drowning.
  • We recommend you view the various adjustable flash settings before allowing your child to play with the unit.

Does the system work off batteries? The Sensory Station runs off a standard outlet. The power cord is 6 ft. long. The lights use a remote control with a standard CR2025 battery.

How long can I keep the station running for? The pump is designed for continual use, so as long as the system has the appropriate amount of water you can keep the system running for as long as you like. The Sensory Station uses a quality long-lasting pump designed by OASE® the global leader in creative water technology.

How big is the unit? The dimensions are 21” W x 19” D x 13” H.  The unit weight without water is 12 lbs.

How easy is the system able to be moved? The unit has been designed to be able to be picked up by placing your hands in the two openings at the base of the system and lifting. The unit weight without water is 12 lbs. Do not move the unit while it is running. We recommend removing the water tray before relocating the unit to prevent water loss. Always use caution when transporting the water tray or the Sensory Station.

Is the system safe to be used outside? We have designed the Sensory Station to be easily taken away from the home and used in other places that have standard 110v outlets.  We do not recommend having the unit exposed to long periods of direct sunlight. Prolonged outdoor exposure can lead to accelerated evaporation, which will require you to refill the water tray so monitor the Sensory Station frequently.

How much water is needed to operate the system?

  • The minimum amount of water you should fill the water tray with is 32 oz. The water tray can hold a maximum amount of 40 oz. of water.
  • Do not overfill the water tray, if you do there is a risk of the unit leaking. Do not underfill the tray or you run the risk of damaging the pump. Always use caution when transporting the water tray or the Sensory Station.
  • Tip: If your child is heavily interacting with the water we recommend filling the unit closer to 40 oz. of water for better operation.

How do I add water to the Sensory Station?

  • Turn off the unit and unlock and remove the water tray from the system using the Allen wrench. Open the tray and add the appropriate amount of water:
    • If adding water to an empty tray, add 32-40 oz. of water. If you are topping off the tray, add enough water so that the water line reaches just below the vent on the tray’s lid.
    • If the water tray is locked in place you can also add water by pouring it into the basin, this method is only recommended if you are filling an empty water tray.
    • Always use caution when transporting the water tray or the Sensory Station.

Pump

What happens if water is removed while the pump is operating?

  • If enough water is removed while the pump is running, air will enter the pump causing the pump to run dry. The pump will start to make a noise. If water is not added or if the pump is not turned off, the pump could be damaged.
  • If your child is playing with the unit and the pump starts to run dry do not immediately add water. Turn off the pump and check the amount of water in the water tray. There should be at least 32 oz., but you can add up to 40 oz. of water if necessary. Tip: If your child is heavily interacting with the water we recommend filling the unit closer to 40 oz. of water for better operation.

What do I do if the LED lights work and the pump does not?

  • Check that the water tray is “locked” in place.
    • If the tray is not locked in place, this can mean the tray is too far away from the pump connector and has caused the pump to stop working.
    1. Unlock the main assembly. Slide your hand under the middle of the right side of the unit. Push up and towards you with one finger on the slide lock. The slide lock will disengage.
      1. The top and bottom of the unit are connected, so carefully lift the top of the unit and place it behind the bottom of the unit.
    2. Inside the unit there is a safety microswitch in between the pump connector and the water tray. The safety microswitch is there to prevent the pump from running if there is no tray or if the tray is not locked correctly.
    3. Check the position of the microswitch arm. The arm needs to extend out so that when tray is inserted, the tray engages the microswitch (a click will be heard). The arm can be easily bent outward to allow the tray to engage the switch.
    • If the tray is locked, in place the issue may be with connection to the pump.
    2. Check the power cord to the pump and make sure there are no damages.
    3. Check the tubing to the pump and make sure there are no damages
    4. Check pump and the one-way valve for debris (if the pump or valve have been fouled the pump would be making a noise but water would not be flowing).

What do I do if the pump is making noise?

  • The pump will make a quiet humming noise during normal operation. If the noise of the pump during normal operation is a bother we suggest baffling the pump noise by placing a towel under the system (there is also the added benefit of soaking up splashed water). Be sure the system is stable and level.
  • If the pump is dry running it will make a louder noise. This happens when the pump is not getting enough water. Air will enter the pump causing the pump to run dry. If water is not added or if the pump is not turned off, the pump could be damaged.

Cleaning & Care

How do I clean the system?

  1. Turn off and unplug the unit.
  2. Remove the water tray assembly with the included Allen wrench. Clean the water tray; the water tray is dishwasher safe.
  3. The inside of the system can be cleaned by unlocking the main assembly. Slide your hand under the middle of the right side of the unit. Push up and towards you with one finger on the slide lock. The slide lock will disengage.
  4. The top and bottom of the unit are connected, so carefully lift the top of the unit and place it behind the bottom of the unit.
  5. Clean the pump with warm water using a soft brush.
  6. Be sure to wipe any areas where water may have splashed or leaked onto due to removing the water tray.  Use of disinfecting wipes is recommended.

CAUTION: Never use aggressive cleaning agents or chemical solutions.

How do I drain the system when I am done? Simply turn off the unit, unlock the water tray with the included Allen wrench and remove the tray for emptying and cleaning. We recommend removing the water tray before relocating the unit to prevent any spilling. Always use caution when transporting the water tray or the Sensory Station.

How often do I need to clean the system?

  • It is recommended that the water be completely drained at the end of every day and the tray be dried.  Fresh tap water will be added when the unit is ready to be used again.
  • It is recommended to clean the whole system once a week with normal use.
  • Any time liquids other than water have been introduced to the unit, it is recommended that the system be opened and cleaned thoroughly.
  • Clean the pump when it is visibly soiled or when a drop in performance is detected.
  • Once a month it is recommended to flush the unit with a 60/40 mix of vinegar and water followed by cleaning the pump thoroughly with warm water.

What happens if particles of food or other objects go into the water tray? The system should be opened and thoroughly cleaned anytime materials or solutions other than water have been introduced into the system. The water tray has a removable filter to keep foreign objects from getting into the pump.

What do I do if the unit is leaking?

  • If the unit is leaking it is probably because the water tray’s check valve is not fully engaged. Please make sure the tray is locked in place so the check valve is in place, this should prevent the leaking.
  • The unit could also be leaking due to too much water. Turn off the system, unlock the main assembly and check the inside of the system for pools of water. If there is an excess amount of water in the system then too much water has been added. The system requires between 32 and 40 oz. of water.

I misplaced the Allen wrench, what size do I need? The water tray uses a #5 Allen wrench to lock and unlock.

What is the product warranty? The product has a 1-year limited warranty. For more information visit our warranty page.
